If you’re planning a trip to Mongolia’s vast and varied landscapes, packing smart is key. The weather can change quickly, so prepare for sun, wind, rain, and cold—all in one day.

 

Luggage

  • Large backpack or suitcase (up to 78 × 38 cm)

  • Smooth, durable material (nylon recommended)

  • Sturdy handles, long zipper, and small padlock

  • Daypack for camera, water bottle, and daily essentials

 

Clothing

  • Light, comfortable walking boots

  • Rubber slippers for ger-camp bathrooms

  • Waterproof, windproof rain jacket or poncho

  • Warm coat or insulated jacket

  • Scarf, hat, and gloves

  • 2–3 short-sleeved shirts

  • 1–2 long-sleeved shirts or light sweaters

  • 1 mid-weight pullover or fleece

  • 2 pairs of quick-dry pants or skirts

  • Underwear, socks, nightwear

  • Optional headscarf or bandana (for sun and dust protection)

 

Technical Gear

  • Sleeping bag (if camping outside ger camps)

  • Liner or sheet for added warmth

  • Sunglasses (plus spare pair)

  • 1 L reusable water bottle

  • Pocket knife or multitool

  • Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries

  • Travel alarm clock with spare batteries

 

Health & Hygiene

  • Basic first aid kit (bandages, painkillers, antiseptic)

  • Biodegradable soap and shampoo

  • Quick-dry towel

  • Sunscreen and lip balm (with SPF)

  • Menstrual supplies (tampons or pads)

 

Miscellaneous

  • Camera, extra batteries, memory cards

  • Binoculars for wildlife spotting

  • Money belt or hidden pouch

  • Favorite snacks and energy bars

  • Notebook, pen, and a small guidebook
